Live Blog: Q+A Super City Mayoralty Debate

DeadBall is going to Live Blog the Super City Mayoralty debate.Williams vs Banks vs Brown. And we’re off.

Holmes-y is in the big chair, and he’s pretty fired up. Hasn’t really mentioned the debate, he’s much more excited about the Labour leadership meltdown post the Chris Carter failed coup fiasco.

They’ve got some Mayor’s on hand to discuss the upcoming debate. Mad Bob Harvey and relentlessly perky Kerry Prendergast. Guessing they’re going to lean Brown-wards. Mostly I’m just gutted that Simon Praast didn’t get a spot. His policy of leading all coverage with his background as a P fiend and his legalise-all-drugs plan looked a surefire hit. COMING TONIGHT! Liveblogging the NZNTM Finale

New Zealand Next Top Model?

New Zealand Next Top Model?

By actual popular demand we’ll be liveblogging every minute of the finale of NZNTM tonight, with some contributors from Real Groove magazine, plus me and any deadballers who can make it. Will be using coveritlive, the same set up as isaaclikes use on their liveblogs of the series. Just so you know, we’re not attempting to bite their style, those guys do a great job from a fashion-centric standpoint; we’ll be treating it like the high drama sporting contest it is. So maybe keep both windows open.

The cool thing about coveritlive is the way viewers can interact via comments and polls as part of the flow of the commentary. So this will be a group effort guys. Post any suggestions/ideas/whatever flotsam or jetsam in the comments here, and come back from 7pm, we’ll try and do some real average pre-amble. It’ll be like Gameday before the league but sadly with less Steven McIvor. Reemember his work on that ‘find a cheerleader for the Warriors’ show? Lech. Regardless, it’s going to be a very, very good day.

Guest Post: Semi Live Blogging The Champions League Final

Seeking out some atmosphere to go with an event of the magnitude of the Champions League final I am forsaking my trusty chair, easy access to coffee, and about half an hours extra sleep to head down to The Bard on Avon, Christchurch’s early morning football destination. And so Deadball is proud to bring you a live account of the final, just a bit later on ‘cos I have to transcribe it from my notebook.

The Champions League final is great but it does herald the end of the football season, it’s a pretty bleak three months once the NBA Finals are over, and does have a tendency to bring out the type of people who watch one game a year and so it is no surprise to arrive to a sea of ManU shirts already spilling out onto the outside tables. Where were all of you during the semi finals? Not wearing your shirts that’s for sure where Gunners bearers outnumbered you 10 to 1, that is until the goals went in and it turned out you’d come in plainclothes, way to stand up for what you believe in. It is a particularly bad year for this type of behaviour with two obvious teams who are also two of my most hated, slightly less on the Barca side (no more Deco, no more worlds most overrated player, they play amazing football, and it would be nice to see Henry win it).

Liveblogging: Sunday’s TV3 News Sports Bulletin

Continuing the DeadBall tradition of quality sport reporting, and keeping the media honest, here comes the first in a regular new series of live blogging – the Sunday news sports bulletin. We will be mixing things up, sometimes covering the TV One bulletin, sometimes the TV3 bulletin. But don’t expect any warning as to which it will be – we’re not telling you until the live blogging begins. Get used to it.

Tonight, it’s the TV3 “Super Sports Sunday” bulletin. Anything could happen here. Will it be Pickles or McKay? Will there… will they… anyway, you get the picture… this is going to be VERY exciting!

6.30 – Uh-oh, it’s six thirty, and there’s a story about Christmas, Christchurch, or something else beginning with Christ. It’s certainly not sport anyway. This can mean only one thing – Super Sports Sunday doesn’t exist any more! This is already much more exciting than I imagined. Oh yeah, it’s a story about World Vision, a black man and his goat.

6.33 – Still no sports news. I’d much rather be watching a story about XMAS LIGHTS anyway:

Liveblogging: All Blacks vs. England

Setting the scene:

Less than 30 minutes till kick-off. The All Blacks are about to play their last test match of 2008, attempting to claim the Grand Slam, and cap off a year that has seen them capture the Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations Trophy. A pretty big year. David and I left the PARTY OF THE YEAR to be here, blogging, live, for you…

I’m excited. Dave is:

Apologies for the quality of the photography, but it is NOT going to get any better tonight. In fact, it may be the last photo of the evening. All that matters is that Dave is asleep on the couch, and he looks pretty settled.

Okay, wide shot of Twickenham, and I’ve got to say, the stadium is looking pretty good. It’s not the time to be getting into a conversation about the state of New Zealand’s rugby facilities, but that one shot says it all – we have a lot of work to do before 2011.

We’re in the final ad break before the teams take the field. Final thought – tonight is about Conrad Smith. He’s the enigma that Henry can’t seem to settle on. A scholar of the game, an unorthodox genius, a wayward craftsman. He’s constantly shadowed by the global megastar-in-the-making Richard Kahui, and tonight is his chance to cement himself in the #13 jersey. Conrad Smith is the kind of player that you just want to succeed – but can he, in the next 80 minutes, convince Graham Henry that he is the future?

Coming Tonight… All Blacks/England Liveblog

all_blacks_england

Don’t watch the final match of the All Blacks end of year/Grand Slam tour on television. Or if you do, mute the telly and let Deadball provide the commentary. Justin and David will be live from 3.15am (NZ time) bringing you all of the big hits and haka controversy.

This is history on the making. Don’t miss it.
