COMING TONIGHT! Liveblogging the NZNTM Finale

New Zealand Next Top Model?

New Zealand Next Top Model?

By actual popular demand we’ll be liveblogging every minute of the finale of NZNTM tonight, with some contributors from Real Groove magazine, plus me and any deadballers who can make it. Will be using coveritlive, the same set up as isaaclikes use on their liveblogs of the series. Just so you know, we’re not attempting to bite their style, those guys do a great job from a fashion-centric standpoint; we’ll be treating it like the high drama sporting contest it is. So maybe keep both windows open.

The cool thing about coveritlive is the way viewers can interact via comments and polls as part of the flow of the commentary. So this will be a group effort guys. Post any suggestions/ideas/whatever flotsam or jetsam in the comments here, and come back from 7pm, we’ll try and do some real average pre-amble. It’ll be like Gameday before the league but sadly with less Steven McIvor. Reemember his work on that ‘find a cheerleader for the Warriors’ show? Lech. Regardless, it’s going to be a very, very good day.

Liveblogging: The Halberg Awards

It’s t-27 minutes until the start of The Halberg Awards, the venerable sporting institution which has seen off the ultra-crap People’s Choice Awards and according to one press release, turned the Vector Arena into ‘Auckland’s largest dining room!’ Which you must admit would almost border on mildly interesting if you were at a doctor’s waiting room and they only had dated back issues of NZ Home & Garden to distract you.

Anyway, just while we’re filling in time, here’s a picture of Murray Halberg, the man who started at all, and one of the original gangstas of New Zealand’s killer athletics era. There’s some talk that Vili’s gold will lead to a wave of nostalgia for those glory days and get her the overall Halberg, but let’s just state for the permanent record that DeadBall (or at least Duncan. Dave is here but I’ve not asked him) is opposed to any such award. As well as she did, the Brickyard is history, and anything other than a Scott Dixon Supreme Award will PISS. ME. OFF.

One final thing before we get into the awards proper: I do think it’s super cool that there’s a Supreme Award winner. They don’t do that anywhere, not the Oscars, Crufts or the VMAs… That’s all of them right? Actually they do in Crufts, but I’m pretty sure they don’t do that very often at other awards ceremonies, and it’s definitely cool. Continue reading

Liveblogging: Sunday’s TV3 News Sports Bulletin

Continuing the DeadBall tradition of quality sport reporting, and keeping the media honest, here comes the first in a regular new series of live blogging – the Sunday news sports bulletin. We will be mixing things up, sometimes covering the TV One bulletin, sometimes the TV3 bulletin. But don’t expect any warning as to which it will be – we’re not telling you until the live blogging begins. Get used to it.

Tonight, it’s the TV3 “Super Sports Sunday” bulletin. Anything could happen here. Will it be Pickles or McKay? Will there… will they… anyway, you get the picture… this is going to be VERY exciting!

6.30 – Uh-oh, it’s six thirty, and there’s a story about Christmas, Christchurch, or something else beginning with Christ. It’s certainly not sport anyway. This can mean only one thing – Super Sports Sunday doesn’t exist any more! This is already much more exciting than I imagined. Oh yeah, it’s a story about World Vision, a black man and his goat.

6.33 – Still no sports news. I’d much rather be watching a story about XMAS LIGHTS anyway:

Coming Tonight… Breakers/Wildcats Liveblog

00120981-image

Just a reminder that we’ll be liveblogging the Breakers vs. Wildcats tonight (assuming our Panmure lagoon stadium game goes off on schedule – I’m looking at you Celia), so come back for that from a bit after 8. Actually, seeing as it’s from the Maori TV coverage, which is delayed by like a half hour, it’s not strictly-speaking a liveblog, but hey, if they’re alowed a little latitude, so are we.

It should be a hot game, we squeaked past the Wildcats 103-99 in round seven, but they took the previous game (last season and currently sit fourth on the NBL ladder (at 9-6) to the Breakers (11-3) second. See you then.

Liveblogging Kiwis vs Kangaroos

image0172OK so Justin and Duncan are going to liveblog this game after the um, success (41 views counts, right?) of our liveblogging of Munster vs. The All Blacks. The pre-match coverage is going OK, there have been less awkward Mariah Carey covers than the opening ceremony (which, lest we forget, happened more than 24 hours after the tournament started). But they did just flash up about ten seconds of an old man lying on the ground next to the player’s tunnel, apparently dying. That was a bit of a downer. Here come the anthems…

OMFG who the hell is this creep doing our anthem? Are they messing with us?

New Zealand's national anthem singer (was actually vertical for the anthem)

Australia meeting the haka head on, this is really f***ing intense. Up there with the first England game.

3.30: A couple of sets in and the first penalty goes to NZ. I’m still processing dinner, but the nerves have settled.

4.00: SHIT! Marshall just blew a grounding. Pull him – he’s out of his depth.

5.55: They’re breaking tackles all over the park, we look a bit too keen right now. Vatuvei tried to king hit Slater, then Marshall failed to find touch from a penalty. Get your heads in the game New Zealand! Continue reading
